Vessel and cover in the shape of a xu
Artist: Unknown
On display
This vessel, produced in enamel during the Qianlong reign, recreates the shape of an
ancient xu vessel from the 8th century BC, but is decorated in a distinctly late Imperial style. The lid features a late interpretation of the taotie design, even though this style of decoration would not have been found on the original bronze xu.
