Tom Sayers (1826-1865) was once the undisputed boxing champion of England. His last and most famous fight took place in Farnborough, Hampshire in 1860 against the American John C. Heenan. After 2 hours and 42 gruelling rounds the crowd broke into the ring and the fight was declared a draw. Charles Dickens and WM Thackeray were among the spectators.
