Ritual covered wine vessel, fangyi
Artist: Unknown
On display
This type of wine vessel was made in the Shang period. The rectangular cross-section and sides are unusual in bronze casting but evidently popular in the Shang dynasty. The foot is decorated with two small dragons with hooked tails; above these are large taotie or cast monster-mask motifs, repeated on the cover, and below the rim are two further small dragons.
