God the Father and God The Son
Artist: Hans Thomans
On display
These figures are among the finest surviving works of Hans Thoman, one of the leading figures of the German Renaissance. They would originally have formed part of a large altarpiece, positioned above two pairs of saints, Saint Martin with Saint Barbara, and Saint George with Saint Margaret, with the crowned Virgin in the centre. The saints are now in the Germanisches National museum in Nuremberg, and the Virgin is in the parish church at Oberliezheim, near Dillingen.
