The start of June 2024 marks 40 years of Volunteers Week!

To help celebrate and inspire others, we’re going to be highlighting all of the different roles our amazing volunteers do at Compton Verney. From Forest School to Shuttle Bus driving and Contemporary Arts Volunteers, visit our social media as we shine a spotlight on the volunteers who are at the heart of everything we do.

But first, Gallery Volunteer Emily wants to encourage others to give back to the community and find out more about volunteering at Compton Verney by sharing her unique story.

Hi, my name is

 Emily …

… and I am a Gallery Volunteer at Compton Verney.

I am 23 years old and have been in this role for over 6 months now.

Enjoyable, rewarding and exciting is how I would describe my volunteering experience here. I am really enjoying this role and all it has to offer including being part of a welcoming and supportive team where no two days are the same.

What drew me to volunteering in the gallery role was how it perfectly matched my interests and my degree in Art History and Visual Culture. Compton Verney has a rich and diverse art collection that dates back to 2000BC and volunteers like myself can truly immerse themselves in it.

Compton Verney has such a rich and diverse collection dating back to 2000BC that both volunteers and visitors can immerse themselves in.

I wanted to use the opportunity to develop my art knowledge and skills whilst also gaining valuable experience in the sector for my future career.

My four favourite things about being a gallery volunteer are:

  1. Being part of a friendly and welcoming team
  2. Learning about the different artworks in the exhibitions and collections and their history
  3. Interacting with and helping visitors from everywhere
  4. Additional opportunities that are available to get involved with for my personal growth

The application process was so easy. I could see the range of roles they had available on their website and after meeting the friendly team, they helped find the perfect role for me.

Volunteers Week with Emily

The image shows an art gallery room with ornate white columns, blue walls, and various framed paintings displayed. In the centre of the room stands a young woman wearing a black jacket, trousers, and shoes. She appears to be a staff member or guide, wearing an identification badge. The setting suggests she is working or employed at this gallery, surrounded by the exhibited artworks in this elegant, columned interior space.

Summer Holidays at Compton Verney

The image shows a group of young children dancing and celebrating at what appears to be an outdoor music festival or concert. One child in a red sequined dress has her arms raised joyfully. Another with blonde hair wears colourful arm bands and has her arms stretched upwards passionately. The third child also has their arms raised euphorically, wearing a grey top. Their expressions and body language convey an atmosphere of carefree fun, revelry, and youthful energy against a sunny sky backdrop. A smiley face icon in the lower right corner adds a playful, upbeat touch.
