Opening Hours and Pricing Update

Compton Verney is a very special place, to secure our future, in these challenging times for cultural organisations across the country, we are having to make some adjustments. We are making some increases to general admission ticket pricing and a change to the days we are open, effective from 1 April 2025.

Compton Verney is an independent charity and accredited museum which welcomes over 120,000 visitors a year. We are working hard to ensure our long-term sustainability in the challenging financial context in which we and all other cultural organisations are operating.

Everyone who becomes a Benefactor or Member, donates money, buys tickets or spends money in our shop and café is supporting the work we do, and as a charity, your support means the world to us.

Thank you for your ongoing support, we couldn’t do the work we do without it.

Update to Opening Hours

In response to the ongoing challenging financial context, we’ve had to explore various options to reduce our costs while maintaining our mission of connecting people with art, nature and creativity, and to preserve the future of Compton Verney. After careful consideration and consultation with staff, we’ve taken the difficult decision to close for an additional day each week.

Our new opening hours, effective from 1 April 2025, will be Wednesday – Sunday 10am-5pm meaning we will be closed to all visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays. We will continue to open on Bank Holiday Mondays.

Events which take place regularly on Tuesdays have been moved to other days of the week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you making these changes?

The decision to close on Tuesdays and increase prices has been made as part of ongoing strategic changes to ensure we can sustain Compton Verney long term. This proposed change is part of a range of adjustments we’re making to adapt to financial circumstances and make efficiencies.

We are working hard to ensure the long-term sustainability of Compton Verney in the challenging financial context in which we are operating and have implemented several initiatives to manage operating costs.

The funding and cost of running of cultural organisations has been a challenge for a long time but has become particularly challenging since the impact of energy increases and the cost-of-living crisis. The majority of arts and cultural organisations are in the same position and are also having to make difficult decisions.

How is Compton Verney funded?

Compton Verney is an independent charity which receives funding from several sources.

Our core funding comes from Compton Verney Fund which manages the endowment from our founder Sir Peter Moores, which contributes around 37% of our funding, and around 3% comes from Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation.

Outside of this, our biggest income stream comes from our visitors through Memberships and Benefactors, donations and admissions.
