Our Gallery

We urgently need your support to raise £50,000 towards essential repairs to our gallery roof to ensure that we can keep offering amazing opportunities to experience world-class art at Compton Verney.

Over the last 20 years, we’ve hosted some incredible artworks in our largest gallery – from Turners and Van Goghs lining the walls, to delicate, breathtaking floral sculptures suspended from the ceiling – and a life-size carved wooden horse by Grinling Gibbons. Now, we need your help to replace the roof of the gallery so that we can carry on sharing showstopping artworks with our visitors.

The rubber and timber of the large, flat roof is beginning to fail, and is in need of essential repairs. Although safe until the end of the year, it must be replaced before further degrading and impacting our exhibition programme. We have created space at the beginning of our 2025 programme for the work to happen. The new rubberised roof will be home to 60 new solar panels which will save nearly 24,ooo kWh of energy every year – enough to boil a kettle 120,000 times.

Replacing the roof is a huge and complex task, and the costs of materials, scaffold, and specialist contractors will total over £150,000. Our charity is struggling to meet this significant, unplanned cost, alongside the other essential maintenance of our historic buildings and grounds.

As a charity, Compton Verney is reliant on the support of its friends and members, even more so during these challenging financial times with the rising cost in energy, in particular, having had a significant impact on us.

Replacing our gallery roof will ensure that we can continue to bring amazing art to our audiences in the heart of the country and beyond whilst the installation of solar panels will substantially reduce our energy use and save five tonnes of carbon each year.

If you feel in a position to support this campaign, please do so here. We would be so grateful for your support.
