Molly’s First Festival

Created by mum and illustrator Katherine O’Shea, ‘Molly’s First Festival’ is the first children’s picture book about the family festival experience. Inspired by Katherine’s own experience as a festival-going parent, the book was made through crowdfunding and has been featured on a CBeebies TV Special, filmed at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival.

The story follows little Molly and her family as they make their way through a music festival, all trying to have as much fun as possible in a crazy new place. The aim is to provide reassurance to both children and parents about what to expect, and to celebrate the amazing range of activities that modern music festivals have to offer.

Use the exclusive code BFLF25 for 25% off the book.

Good to know

Will there be filming at the event?

We may photograph or film small parts of the event and by entering you are giving your permission for these to be used for Big Fish Little Fish or Compton Verney promotion purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed then please let our team know on arrival.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

All ages are welcome but the activities are designed for families to enjoy together.

Big Fish Little Fish is designed to provide a family friendly, authentic dance music and festival experience and is not a traditional children’s party or disco.

What type of music will be playing?

Music is a mix of classic rave genres.   You won’t find children’s music or DJ shoutouts – we hope that families unite on the dancefloor and dance together!

How loud will it be?

Big Fish Little Fish sets and monitors the volume using World Health Organisation guidelines, and ensures that it is at a safe level for everyone, even the youngest of babies, over the three-hour duration of the event.

Though quieter than at adult events, it is still loud enough to feel like you are at a club.

If you are planning your child to have a nap or your children are particularly sensitive to noise then you might want to consider ear defenders.

Will there be food and drink?

There will be a selection of food from Digbeth Dining Club vendors including child friendly options and ice cream. We will also have licensed bars available providing tinned alcohol as well as free drinking water.

The vendors on the day will be;

  • Leave it to Esmie
  • Street Chef
  • Hottodoggu

You can bring in your own picnics, however no glass is permitted on site at the event. Please do not bring your own alcoholic drinks with you, and we will be running bags checks.

Can I visit the house and grounds too?

Your ticket includes entry to the house and grounds during the time of the event only. If you would like to visit the house and grounds before 2pm, please book an admission ticket.

Will there be any seating at the event?

The event is taking place in our Old Town Meadow which has a few benches and is a grassy area with no concrete paths. Feel free to bring along a picnic blanket but the area isn’t suitable for camping chairs.

Can I bring a pushchair or buggy?

Buggies are allowed on site, and we will have a buggy park. For the best experience we would suggest you leave your buggies at home where possible as this are won’t be manned, and the walk from the car park to the event is in a field involving a steep hill on the way back.

Are dogs allowed?

While we usually welcome dogs at Compton Verney, due to the nature of this event dogs are not permitted.

Service dogs are permitted.
