About the
exhibition
Through paintings, photographs, drawings, film, etchings, books and studio furniture, this exhibition explored the changing function and depiction of the artist’s studio from the 1700s to the present day.
Artists in the exhibition included: J. M. W. Turner, Eric Ravilious, Gwen John, Paula Rego, Lisa Milroy and Jeremy Deller.
It also explored, through photographs, the studios of some of the most prominent artists of the 20th Century, including David Hockney, Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread, Damien Hirst and Lucian Freud.
To coincide with the exhibition, was a newly commissioned film documenting artists in their studios.
